The Impact of the ROIS OJK and Dompet Dhuafa Zakat Collaboration Spreads: From Braille Qur’ans to MSME Empowerment

JAKARTA —-— Dompet Dhuafa attended the closing ceremony of the 2026 Islamic Finance Ramadan Festival (GERAK Syariah), held in the Multipurpose Hall of the Radius Prawiro Tower at the Bank Indonesia Office Complex in Central Jakarta on Thursday, April 2, 2026. In this collaboration, Dompet Dhuafa was entrusted as the partner responsible for distributing Braille Qur’ans.

The GERAK Syariah 2026 program is an initiative of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to enhance Islamic financial literacy and inclusion in Indonesia. Through a collaborative national campaign, the program involves Islamic Financial Services Providers (PUJKS), ministries, institutions, academics, and various community organizations.

To ensure the success of this year’s agenda, Dompet Dhuafa partnered with the OJK’s Islamic Spirituality Division (ROIS) to distribute zakat funds from OJK employees. This assistance is focused on people with disabilities, who are a priority segment for Islamic financial inclusion. The distribution takes the form of Braille Qur’ans, living expense support, and personal development programs.

Etika Setiawanti, Director of Resource Mobilization & Marketing Communication at Dompet Dhuafa, was present and expressed her deep appreciation for the long-standing trust placed in us by the OJK.

“We congratulate everyone on the achievements of the GERAK Syariah 2026 initiative; may it have a broad and beneficial impact on society. We also thank OJK for the collaboration that has been ongoing since 2015, through which zakat funds have been distributed via Dompet Dhuafa. Some of these zakat distribution programs include: the distribution of Braille Qur’ans, Humanitarian Aid (Sumatra Disaster), and economic assistance for MSMEs,” explained Etika.

The Executive Director of Supervision of Financial Services Industry Conduct, Education, and Consumer Protection (PEPK) at the OJK, Dicky Kartikoyono, emphasized the importance of financial management for the nation’s progress. According to him, the OJK will continue to address community needs through strategic collaboration.

“We also appreciate Dompet Dhuafa as a stakeholder partner that helps us distribute the Braille Qur’an aid entrusted to us for our visually impaired friends,” said Dicky.

In line with this, Indonesia’s Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, expressed his appreciation in his keynote speech for the OJK’s significant progress and urged that this program be sustained down to the village level.

“It is no longer just about building infrastructure, but also ensuring that the public becomes active participants in the Islamic economy. This can be enhanced through sustainable programs. Strengthening the real sector, in essence, will grow through activities that reach down to the village level,” said Ferry.

The event was also attended by a number of key figures, including Indonesia’s Minister of Religion, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, MA; Chair of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi; as well as the executive boards of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), PNM, and representatives from the DSN-MUI.

Chair of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, also highlighted that Indonesia possesses significant potential in Islamic economic activities. She mentioned the following factors: Indonesia’s third-place ranking in the global Islamic finance sector; a large Muslim population comprising 86.9% of the total population of 244.7 million people; government support and attention; increased popularity and positive perception of Sharia; and enhanced digital education from an early age.

“We propose the implementation of Islamic finance education for children in schools. Because even though digitalization is increasing, the risk of fraud (scamming) is also becoming more widespread,” she said in the presence of the Minister of Religion.

Concluding the series of remarks, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar acknowledged a positive trend in the national Islamic economy, though he emphasized that Indonesia must continue to push itself to surpass these significant and valuable achievements.

He said, “I am neither proud nor satisfied with the figures presented earlier. When compared to neighboring countries, such as Malaysia, our (Indonesia’s) sharia performance should be higher given our population size. But I admit, it’s good that there has been an improvement compared to previous years.” (Dompet Dhuafa)
