TASIKMALAYA, WEST JAVA —-— Thanks to the synergy between Dompet Dhuafa and Shopee through the fidyah distribution program, thousands of rice packages and rice meals were successfully distributed to the elderly, the poor, and online motorcycle taxi drivers in four provinces, namely Aceh, West Java, Maluku, and Southeast Sulawesi.
Each Dompet Dhuafa branch in these four provinces distributed 300 rice meal packages and 300 rice packages. The fidyah contributions originated from Shopee users who paid their fidyah through the fidyah feature on the Shopee app. The assistance in the form of rice, rice meals, and beverages represents the tangible outcome of this collaborative effort to reach those in need.
In West Java, fidyah distribution is carried out in three main areas, namely Bandung, Cirebon, and Tasikmalaya. The distribution mechanism is carried out through two approaches. First, beneficiaries who are still in good health and able to move are gathered at distribution points. Second, the Dompet Dhuafa team directly visits beneficiaries who are unable to come to the location to ensure that the aid is still delivered.
One of the beneficiaries of the fidyah program is Maman Durahman (59), a pedicab driver who has relied on his bicycle for decades to support himself and his family.
Maman pedals his pedicab every day in the Bandung area. He says that the route he usually takes is not far. Sometimes he goes to the Ciburuy area and then to Dago. However, he now adjusts his route according to his physical condition.
By pulling a pedicab, Maman’s income is uncertain. If there are no passengers, he returns to the nearest mosque to call the azan and help as a marbot.
“I’m here every day. When I pull the rickshaw, I sometimes make Rp20-30 thousand a day, but it’s not certain. Sometimes I make Rp50 thousand too,” said Maman.
Despite living a simple life, Maman remains grateful for what he receives. When he received a fidyah package consisting of a box of rice and basic necessities from Dompet Dhuafa, he expressed his gratitude.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you very much. Hopefully, his good deeds will be rewarded by Allah SWT. May he be blessed with good health and long life. Alhamdulillah, I am happy to share this with my brothers and sisters,” added Maman.
The collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa and Shopee has made a significant impact on the community. Through the trust of Shopee users in fulfilling their fidyah obligations, Dompet Dhuafa has been able to reach even those in remote areas, ensuring that every donation is delivered to those who are entitled to it.

Not only Maman, online motorcycle taxi drivers also felt happy through the distribution of rice packages for lunch at a restaurant. This kindness is expected to continue to bring benefits and inspire more people to participate in this movement of kindness. (Dompet Dhuafa)
