“It’s great to actually collaborate with Dompet Dhuafa, because this makes the festival with an inclusive concept. Because it can indeed involve deaf friends to be able to enjoy every event from what Jakhumfest holds. All of these events have access to an automatic sign language interpreter when a deaf friend is present, they can access it,” Bagja said in sign language.
Furthermore, Bagja told the excitement when the workshop session started. Bagja teaches sign language, common words in sign language such as good morning greetings, greetings, thanksgiving and so on.
“I teach my friends to learn how to communicate with deaf friends, the second one also teaches Indonesian sign language because that is commonly used by deaf friends to communicate, meaning that when communicating with deaf friends, it can be smooth. So there are no obstacles when communicating. This is the first step to achieving inclusive.” said Bagja, translated by Putri.
One of the visitors, Utri, participated in the workshop with silang.id appreciated and expressed his enthusiasm for learning sign language. Utri said she felt curious when she saw deaf friends communicating, which made her interested in learning sign language.
