Visiting Evacuation Areas, DMC and Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi Volunteers Inform Urgent Needs

MAMUJU, WEST SULAWESI —— In addition to coordinating at the Manakarra Stadium Evacuation Post with the Mamuju Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Regent and Deputy Regent of Mamuju, volunteers from the Disaster Management Center (DMC) and Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi also visited other locations affected by the Mamuju Earthquake.

In his report, Syarif, the Social and Disaster Coordinator of Dompet Dhuafa West Sulawesi, stated that the assessment continued in the evacuation area on Jl. Juanda (Route Two) Mamunyu, Mamuju Regency.

“Preliminary assessment results indicate that the emergency needs here are tarpaulins, mats, blankets, basic food supplies, diapers, hygiene kits, lighting equipment, and cleaning equipment. This evacuation site has two portable toilets, but there is no water. There are 13 evacuation tents with 56 families, 368 people, including 97 children,” said Syarif.

Previously, on Wednesday (June 8, 2022) at 12:32 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, an earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck the Mamuju Regency in West Sulawesi. Occurring at a depth of 10 kilometers, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the earthquake’s epicenter as 43 kilometers southwest of Mamuju.

In response, volunteers from the Disaster Management Center (DMC) of Dompet Dhuafa, together with Dompet Dhuafa South Sulawesi, deployed an emergency response team to the earthquake-affected area on Thursday (May 9, 2022) morning.
