The Virtue of Performing the Sacrifice of Eid al-Adha
Even though it is only performed once a year, the sacrifice of Eid al-Adha has great virtue. The sacrifice has a heartwarming history, namely the sacrifice of a father who had long awaited a child, but had to give his child to Allah as a form of devotion. Namely Prophet Ibrahim as. who received an order from Allah to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail as. Even though Prophet Ibrahim had been waiting for a child for decades, Prophet Ismail was his first child. Historically, sacrifice has been a very special practice. According to the scholars, the law of sacrifice is a primary sunnah. It is highly recommended for Muslims who have the material ability. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever finds himself in a position of ease and does not offer a sacrifice, let him not approach the place of our Eid prayer.” (Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Majah).
The words of the Prophet above strongly indicate that for Muslims who meet the requirements, namely being free or independent (not a slave), having reached puberty, being of sound mind, and being materially capable of offering an udhiyah, performing the udhiyah is of the utmost importance.

The Merit of Sacrificing a Goat and Its Virtue
Sacrificing a goat has the same virtue as other sacrifices. The following are the rewards of sacrificing a goat and its virtues:
1. To Get Closer to Allah
Performing the sacrifice will bring us closer to Allah. This is in accordance with the word of Allah, “Allah will not accept the meat and blood of their sacrificial animals, but what Allah accepts is your piety.” (Surah Al-Hajj: 37)
2. Obtain Forgiveness of Sins
By performing the sacrifice, a Muslim can obtain forgiveness from Allah SWT. This is based on the hadith of the Prophet, which was narrated by Al-Bazzar and Ibn Hibban, he said, “O Fatimah, stand by your sacrifice and witness it, for the first drop of its blood will forgive you for your past sins.”

3. The Reward of Sacrificing Multiple Goats
From Aisyah RA, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said: “There is no deed that the son of Adam does on the day of Eid al-Adha that is more loved by Allah than shedding the blood (of the sacrificial animal). Indeed, the sacrificial animal will come on the Day of Judgment with its horns, feathers, and nails. Indeed, the blood will reach Allah before it falls to the ground. So, you are lucky with the sacrifice (reward). (Narrated by Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Hakim).
The Prophet SAW said, “In every hair there is a good.” (HR. Ahmad and Ibn Majah).
From the two hadiths above, we can conclude that the reward for the goat sacrifice that we perform will be multiplied.
4. Obtaining Blessings and Goodness in Life
“Whoever offers an udhiyah with a sincere heart, Allah will bless his life.” (HR. Muslim).
Udhiyah is not about showing off how much wealth we have. Udhiyah is about how we practice sincerity. It is this sincerity that will lead us to a blessed life full of goodness.

5. Cultivating a Sense of Care and Sharing
Sacrificing an animal for Eid is one way for Muslims to share sustenance and happiness with others. Allah says in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Hajj verse 28, “They come) to witness various benefits for them and to mention the name of Allah on certain days that have been determined for the sustenance that He has bestowed upon them in the form of livestock. Eat some of it and (some of it) feed the poor and the needy.”
6. Getting a Special Place on Judgment Day
The virtue of sacrificing for those who perform it is to bring goodness from every strand of the sacrificial animal’s hair. This is based on Zaid bin Arqam who said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is the point of sacrificing?” The Messenger of Allah said, “Following the sunnah of your ancestors, Prophet Ibrahim.” They asked again, “What is the benefit for us?”
The Messenger of Allah said, ‘There is goodness (reward) in every strand of hair.’ They asked again, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what about wool (sheep’s wool)?’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘There is also goodness (reward) in every strand of wool.’ (Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Majah).
7. Obtaining Intercession
The Messenger of Allah said: “Indeed, it (the sacrificial animal) will come on the Day of Judgment with its horns, fur, and nails. Indeed, the blood of the sacrifice will reach Allah before it falls to the ground. So, you are lucky with the sacrifice (reward).” (HR. Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah).
