BANDAR LAMPUNG — Nimas, Tiwi, Eva, Ferhad and Zicky are sixth-semester students at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEBI) of State Islamic University (UIN) Raden Intan Lampung (RIL). Since Tuesday (20/2/2024), their activities on campus have increased. With enthusiasm, they manage the Container Canteen, a Dompet Dhuafa entrepreneurship scholarship programme, in the FEBI area.

Migrating to Lampung for college, Tiwi chose to study in the Accounting department, FEBI UIN RIL. The student from Cilegon was also a hockey athlete in Banten. However, diving into the world of commerce is also her interest towards her future goals.

“In Cilegon, my brother and I opened a thai tea and snack counter. During the pandemic, it was really quiet. My father was a truck driver and my mother sold vegetables. I liked watching my mum trade. That motivated me to help my parents with this Dompet Dhuafa scholarship programme. And indeed, my goal is to have my own shop or cafe later,” said Tiwi, optimistically.

Equally eager to help his parents and a hobby of trading, Zicky said that since junior high school he often helped friends bridge the sale or just offer second-hand goods. The student majoring in Management at UIN RIL has also opened a business with his friend since high school.

“I sold my friend’s mobile phone, second hand. Then in high school, I opened a clothing or sports product shop with a friend. Coincidentally, a friend had a place, so we jointly contributed to the initial capital for shopping for goods. Now it’s still open, but not as active as before. Going to college and having this canteen opportunity, I want to learn business management and help my parents who farm in the fields,” said Zicky.

Nimas’ parents are also vegetable farmers, but the inspiration for her business came from her brother. The Economics student remembers when her brother was selling and often left snack products with Nimas when she was still in primary school.

“Even though I was still in primary school, I was inspired by my brother. Finally, when I was in high school, I started selling fashion and foodie products through an online shop. But now, I’m more interested in learning management. Reading relationships, data collection, and so on. Now I want to develop my business on social media since 2021 in the field of agent management, so a company. Agents to help other people’s businesses,” said Nimas.

In addition, there is Ferhad, who also started the world of commerce with his brother. For the past year, he has been selling Takoyaki snacks near his house. The mini-counter is a family business as an additional source of income for his father, who works as an electronic service labourer.

“My father and brother are very persistent when selling, so I also tried to get this scholarship. Although the activities increase while studying, but this is very positive, because I also want to learn a lot from the Container Canteen. Because one day, after graduating and working, doing business that we enjoy is not bound by certain regulations,” explained the Economics student.

On the other hand, the five beneficiaries of the Container Canteen entrepreneurship scholarship programme are equally motivated with new knowledge and experiences, receive training and guidance, and also increase their pocket money from trading at the Container Canteen. And nine days before its launch, the Container Canteen began its introduction and trial run until its launch on Friday (1/3/2024).

Business Management students Dela and Deli, for example. They are both visitors to the FEBI UIN Lampung Container Canteen who are seen doing coursework on their laptops while chatting and enjoying snacks.

“We have hung out here four times. It’s also good to be close to FEBI, because there is no canteen inside, so here we can sit and snack while doing assignments. We can stay here for up to one or two hours,” said the sixth-semester student.

“Hopefully, this student will be able to finish college with the scholarship he received.
