Heavy rain that has been pouring down in the Greater Jakarta area since Monday night (03/03/2025) has brought disaster to residents in several areas of Bekasi. The rising water level since Tuesday (03/04/2025) morning has trapped many residents in their homes. In these precarious conditions, the Dompet Dhuafa Disaster Management Center (DMC) team immediately mobilized to provide evacuation assistance.

The female evacuation specialist at the Dompet Dhuafa DMC said that on Tuesday (03/04/2025), at around 01:00 WIB, reports of increased water discharge began to reach the Dompet Dhuafa DMC. Without delay, the Dompet Dhuafa DMC team immediately prepared equipment and coordinated with the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) to plan evacuation measures. Fully equipped, they rushed to the affected location.

At exactly 04:00 WIB, a team of three personnel arrived at Villa Nusa Indah Dua, Bojongkulur Village, Gunung Putri District. There, the flooding was already quite severe, with the water level reaching 2-3 meters. Many residents, including the elderly, children, babies, and even a pregnant woman who had just given birth, were still trapped in their homes. Immediately, the DMC Team dispatched an LCR motorboat to evacuate dozens of residents to a safer place.

After successfully evacuating residents at the first location, the Dompet Dhuafa DMC Team continued the rescue mission to Pondok Mitra Lestari, Jatiasih, Bekasi City. Coordination with Basarnas was again carried out to determine evacuation points that still needed assistance. The team also moved to several locations, both in the front and back areas of the submerged settlements.

The evacuation process lasted all day until 21:00 WIB. After ensuring that all residents who needed assistance had been evacuated, the team shifted to the Bekasi SAR Standby Unit Office for further evaluation and coordination. Thankfully, that night, the water level began to recede. From what had originally reached two to three meters, now only about calf to ankle height remained in some places.

Apart from Bekasi, at the same time, DMC Dompet Dhuafa also deployed an evacuation team in East Jakarta, Depok, South Jakarta, and Bogor. In fact, the deployment of the team in Bogor has been carried out since March 3, 2025, in the early hours of the morning to anticipate the wider impact of the flood.

“My friends, please pray that the evacuees from the flood-affected areas in Bekasi will be given fortitude. Hopefully, the flood will recede quickly so that all activities can return to normal,” said Mida on the sidelines of her long story.

In the future, the Dompet Dhuafa DMC Team will continue to monitor the water level, especially in the Bogor area and at the Katulampa dam. If there is any indication of an increase in the water level, the team will remain on standby with the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and other humanitarian volunteers. In addition, plans to open a warming post and provide suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (breaking the fast) services for refugees and volunteers are also being prepared.
