BEKASI, WEST JAVA — Responding to flooding in a number of locations in the Greater Jakarta area, Dompet Dhuafa, through its Disaster Management Center (DMC) team, deployed a response team to evacuate flood-affected residents in Bekasi Regency and City on Tuesday (4/2/2025).
In the first week of Ramadan 1446 H, extreme weather continued to hit a number of areas in Greater Jakarta, especially Bekasi, from Sunday (2/3/2025) night to Tuesday (4/3/2025) morning, which was said to have triggered the flooding. In addition, the flooding was also caused by overflowing water from the Ciliwung-Cisadane River embankment.
“There are a number of points that we have reached to help evacuate residents trapped by the flood, besides in Bekasi, including the South Jakarta-Tangsel area, the East Jakarta area. In addition, we have also remained on standby in Cisarua since Monday (3/3/2025),” said Eka Suwandi as Head of the Response Section of DMC Dompet Dhuafa.

Floods that inundated 12 subdistricts in the Bekasi area caused public activities to be completely paralyzed as of Tuesday (4/3/2025). The floods not only inundated residential areas, but also government offices, shopping centers, and hospitals.
Based on information from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), there are 20 flood points spread across sub-districts throughout Bekasi City with varying water levels ranging from 20 centimeters to 3 meters, causing thousands of residents to be forced to evacuate. The affected sub-districts include East Bekasi, North Bekasi, South Bekasi, Medan Satria, Jatiasih, Pondok Gede, and Rawalumbu.
Starting from flash floods in Cisarua, Bogor Regency, thousands of homes in Jakarta have been flooded since Monday (3/3/2025) night.
According to Eka, the DMC team on duty at each flood location brought rubber boats to evacuate residents trapped by the floods. In addition, each personnel and volunteer on duty was equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE).

Based on the report of the DMC team in the field, the flood that has occurred since Monday night has not completely receded. In Cawang, the flood is still high (1-2 meters) and the current is still strong.
Apart from the Bekasi area, Eka Suwandi explained that the DMC team was on standby at several points in Jabodetabek and also in Cisarua to help handle the flood.

At several other points, there are still puddles that have not receded and disappeared. The floods in Greater Jakarta are a reminder of the importance of being prepared for extreme weather. Collaboration between the government, humanitarian organizations, and the community is key to tackling this disaster and minimizing its impact.
The public is urged to stay up to date with the latest weather information and prioritize safety in the midst of conditions that are still not fully stable.
Pray for the safety of the affected residents and the volunteers who are helping. Hopefully the flood will recede soon, and we will all be given the opportunity to get through Ramadan this year safely and securely. (Dompet Dhuafa)
