LANGKAT, NORTH SUMATRA —— Flash floods that hit three provinces on the island of Sumatra have damaged and contaminated clean water sources. Residents who remain in the area are facing a clean water crisis, making it increasingly difficult for them to survive. Limited access to water makes it difficult for residents to maintain personal hygiene and wash their daily clothes. This situation increases the risk of health problems, especially for children and the elderly, who require special attention.
In response to this situation, Dompet Dhuafa, through its Disaster Management Center (DMC), established the Free Laundry Corner, a free laundry service for flood survivors in the Bukit Kubu neighborhood, Besitang, Langkat, North Sumatra, on Sunday (December 7, 2025). The hope is that this program can bring a little comfort to survivors as they go about their activities amid the disaster.

Pojok Laundry provides free laundry services for around 300 residents of Bukit Kubu, one of the areas most severely affected by the floods. Residents flocked to bring clothes and household items that had not been cleaned due to the floods. For residents, Pojok Laundry helps them regain comfort and cleanliness in the midst of the post-disaster recovery process.
“We are greatly helped. After the flood, it was very difficult to wash clothes because water and tools were limited,” said one of the beneficiaries.

Through this program, M Khaibar, Field Coordinator of DMC Dompet Dhuafa, hopes to ease the burden on residents, while also helping them to get back on their feet and rebuild their daily lives. The presence of the Laundry Corner is proof that even the smallest act of kindness can have a big impact on those in need. (Dompet Dhuafa)
