LAMPUNG – Concern for flood victims in Lampung continues to flow. This time, Dompet Dhuafa Lampung together with BAZMA Pertamina distributed aid to the affected community. Aid in the form of mattresses was distributed by Dompet Dhuafa Lampung to residents affected by the flood in South Lampung Regency, precisely in Bandar Agung Village, Sragi District, on Friday (21/02/2025).

A total of 25 mattresses have been given to residents who have lost or damaged their beds due to the flood. This disaster is nothing new for the people of Kuala Jaya, as they face flooding almost every year. However, this year and in recent decades they have experienced the worst conditions. High rainfall and rising sea tides have exacerbated the situation, causing floods that have taken longer to recede than in previous years.

“This area is often flooded, but this year was the worst since I lived here. In fact, for almost the past month the water has been continuously crashing into people’s houses,” said Rengreng, one of the residents affected by the flood.

Depli, Head of Kuala Jaya Hamlet, explained that the water level could reach one meter, submerging houses and residents’ belongings, including mattresses which suffered a lot of damage. In addition, access roads between hamlets were submerged for 15 days, forcing residents to use rivers or the sea as an alternative. This condition caused many residents to have difficulty obtaining basic supplies due to limited transportation access.

“Alhamdulillah, the community is very grateful. This mattress assistance is greatly needed, considering that many residents’ mattresses have been damaged by recurring floods,” he said.

The impact of flooding is not only felt in terms of material damage, but also affects public health. Many residents experience skin diseases due to prolonged immersion in water, as well as an increase in cases of respiratory tract infections due to humid environmental conditions. In addition, some children and the elderly also experience symptoms of fever and cough which are thought to be due to extreme weather changes.

On this occasion, Dompet Dhuafa and BAZMA Pertamina emphasized their commitment to continue helping communities affected by disasters. In addition to mattress assistance, Dompet Dhuafa Lampung and BAZMA Pertamina are also reviewing the need for further assistance for affected residents. Some of the urgent needs identified include food logistics, cleaning supplies, and health services for people affected by flood-related illnesses.

“BAZMA is contributing to the handling of the floods in Lampung together with Dompet Dhuafa Lampung. Hopefully, this assistance can ease the burden on affected families,” said Hassan Afif, Executive Director of BAZMA Pertamina.

Meanwhile, the Branch Manager of Dompet Dhuafa Lampung, Nandrianto Suparno, appreciated the synergy that existed in this humanitarian action. With this assistance, he hopes that the community can be more comfortable in undergoing the post-disaster recovery period. In the future, it is hoped that there will also be better mitigation efforts to reduce the impact of flooding in this area, including through the construction of stronger levees and better drainage systems so that the water recedes faster when the rainy season arrives.

“We really appreciate BAZMA’s contribution to the people of Lampung. This is clear evidence of Pertamina’s commitment to social and humanitarian action,” he concluded. (Dompet Dhuafa)
