JAKARTA — Education about zakat is often synonymous with adults only. On Wednesday (5/3/2025), the students of Embun Pagi Islamic School (EPIS) collaborated with Dompet Dhuafa to hold Zakat Amil Training at the EPIS Building, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.
A total of 30 students filled the room to attend the training which consisted of two sessions. The first session was led by the Head of Da’wah Services at Dompet Dhuafa, Ahmad Pranggono, who delivered material on the rewards of being a Zakat collector and Zakat payer. This was followed in the second session by Dompet Dhuafa’s Fundraising Manager, Yudha Andilla, who guided the students in a simulation of the Zakat Fitrah Service.

The principal of EPIS Junior High School, Syahrul Arifin, admitted that material on zakat management was not in the classroom or even the curriculum. His collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa this time aims to enable his students to study the subject of zakat fitrah. In addition, the students also have activities to manage and distribute zakat fitrah for the mustahik (beneficiaries) around the school environment.
“We are giving 30 students from junior high and high school the opportunity to learn how to manage zakat fitrah according to sharia. Later, they will manage zakat fitrah for the students here. The plan is to distribute it to those in need around the school only. They will also educate other students about zakat so that they learn to share. It’s amazing that Dompet Dhuafa can facilitate this training!” said Arif.
The training material delivered by Ustaz Ahmad Pranggono to the students consisted of the definitions of zakat, amil, muzaki, and mustahik; the receipt and management of zakat; and the distribution of zakat with the latest breakthrough, namely through an empowerment program for the community.

Not only material, Ustaz Ahmad Pranggono also showed a documentary video footage of the beneficiaries of the Dompet Dhuafa Economic Empowerment Program at the Embun Pagi Islamic School Building, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.
“I really salute the students and teachers at EPIS. They are concerned with the amil profession. I was just presenting material related to the professional management of zakat. Nowadays, the most important things are digitization, transparency, and program innovation. I also conveyed that zakat distribution can take the form of community empowerment programs, which many people don’t know. Moreover, they will practice managing zakat, which requires a good understanding to determine the beneficiaries or mustahik,” explained Ustaz Ahmad.
Yudha added that it is important to build character in order to serve as a zakat collector and manager. Not only does it require intellectual ability, social interaction is also something that needs attention.
“I would like to take this opportunity to share my knowledge with the younger generation from EPIS. Earlier, we practiced the collection of zakat, with students acting as amil and muzaki. It is important to pay attention to the service or interaction between amil and muzaki. Hopefully today’s material will be a tremendous asset in the future,” said Yudha.

Arif hopes that the knowledge gained by the students can be applied in the near future, namely the month of Ramadan 1446 H and in the future.
“Hopefully they can apply it directly when managing EPIS student zakat this Ramadan. Thank you to Dompet Dhuafa. May Allah bless and protect Dompet Dhuafa in carrying out the mandate of improving the welfare of the nation,” he concluded. (Dompet Dhuafa)
