JAKARTA — The Director of Communication and Technology at Dompet Dhuafa, Prima Hadi Putra, officially launched Schoolunteer 2024 during an online Open House event on Saturday (18/11/2023). On this occasion, Putra also shared several important messages with the Schoolunteer participants, who are part of the younger generation.

For context, Schoolunteer is an annual competition for ideas and initiatives of kindness at the junior and senior high school levels across Indonesia. This initiative, by Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer (DDV), aims to facilitate the best ideas from the younger generation, enabling them to be realized and spread widely.

Aligned with DDV’s vision and mission, “Let’s Help Your Surrounding” was chosen as the theme for Schoolunteer 2024.  It is hoped that Schoolunteer will ignite the spirit of young people to solve problems in their environment by creating new social projects.

In line with this, Prima Hadi Putra spoke on the importance of youth involvement in social projects. Here are five strong reasons why social projects are crucial for young people:

1. Enhancing Social Awareness

According to Putra, involvement in a social project can help young people better understand and become aware of social issues that they might not directly experience.

“This opens their minds to the realities of life around them, increases empathy, and teaches them to care about the conditions of others,” said Putra.

2. Developing Leadership Skills

“Social projects offer young people the opportunity to develop leadership skills,” he explained.

Through these skills, young people learn how to motivate others, organize teams, and overcome challenges that may arise. These skills are beneficial not only in a social context but also in many aspects of life.

3. Fostering Humanitarian Values

Participation in social projects helps young people cultivate humanitarian values such as justice, equality, and social responsibility.

“This creates a strong moral foundation and helps them become better individuals in society,” Putra stated.

4. Building Networks and Social Connections

As is well known, social projects often involve collaboration with various groups and individuals. Through this involvement, young people can build strong social networks and connections.

“These relationships are not only beneficial for supporting the social project itself but can also aid in their career development and personal life in the future,” Putra elaborated.

5. Providing a Sense of Fulfillment and Self-Actualization

Engaging in social projects offers a sense of fulfillment and self-actualization. Participants realize that their contributions have a positive impact on others’ lives, creating a sense of achievement and providing additional motivation to continue participating in social activities.

“By engaging in social projects, young people not only contribute to social improvement but also develop themselves holistically, shaping their character, and preparing to be contributing citizens in society more broadly,” concluded the Director of Technology and Communication at Dompet Dhuafa.
