SERANG, BANTEN – In the midst of an uncertain end to the dry season, Dompet Dhuafa Banten distributed 15 tanks of clean water to two sub-districts in Serang Regency, Banten, on Friday (20/10/2023). This area is experiencing water shortages due to drought and the El Nino phenomenon. The two sub-districts receiving assistance are Pontang and Tirtayasa.

Mokhlas Pidono, the Head of Dompet Dhuafa Banten Branch, stated that this water distribution is part of several similar initiatives by Dompet Dhuafa Banten during the 2023 drought.

“Today’s activity is actually part of a series of clean water distribution efforts. Almost every day, we distribute water to affected areas, from Lebak to Cilegon, with the exception of Tangerang,” said Mukhlas after the symbolic delivery of several clean water tanks in Serang Regency on Friday (20/10/2023).

However, Mukhlas continued, based on coordination with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), rain is expected to start falling in November.

“Today’s activity, we declare as the closing event of clean water distribution for communities affected by the drought in Banten,” said Mukhlas.

Furthermore, Mukhlas also mentioned that Dompet Dhuafa Banten does not only distribute clean water but has also constructed several bore wells in Banten.

“We have built bore wells at several locations, including one in Kampung Susukan, Tirtayasa Sub-District, which cost about Rp64 million. There are also wells we have built in the Lebak and Pandeglang areas, which are now operational and accessible to the community,” he explained.

He hopes that the community feels helped by this water aid for their daily needs. Additionally, it is hoped that in the future, more people will show concern for others affected by drought and water scarcity.

“Hopefully, this initiative inspires others to help their brothers and sisters in need of clean water for daily use,” he said. (Dompet Dhuafa/Banten/Anndini)
