ACEH — Together with a consortium of pro-Palestinian organizations that are members of the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), Dompet Dhuafa held the Meugang tradition in Aceh Tamiang on Tuesday (02/17/2026). Meugang is a tradition unique to the people of Aceh, where they slaughter livestock to be consumed together in order to welcome the holy month of Ramadan.
No less than 50 cows were slaughtered. These cows came from institutions affiliated with GPCI. Donors donated them specifically for the people of Aceh to welcome Ramadan. The meat was then distributed to several evacuation points for survivors of the flash floods and landslides that occurred at the end of 2025 in Aceh.
Herdiansah, Deputy Chair of the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation, revealed that Meugang is a form of community togetherness and a manifestation of the community’s resilience and hope that they will be able to get through the Holy Month of Ramadan with dignity.
“Meugang is not just a tradition of eating meat, it is a symbol of resilience and brotherhood. On the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, we present Meugang as a moment for survivors in Aceh to wash away their grief and welcome a new beginning,” he said after the launch of Kampung GPCI and Meugang on Tuesday (02/17/2026).

On the other hand, Head of Dompet Dhuafa’s Disaster Management Center (DMC), Shofa Qudus, said that through this Meugang event, Dompet Dhuafa distributed cattle to several locations, such as North Aceh Regency, Bireun, and Central Aceh.
Some of these locations include Ulee Reubek Village and Lhok Puuk Village (Seunuddon District, North Aceh), Gunci Village (Sawang District, North Aceh), Bivak Krueng Simpo Village (Juli District, Bireun), Kapa Village (Peusangan District, Bireun), and the An -Nur Orphanage (Leung Bata District, Banda Aceh).
Hopefully, this collaboration will inspire the beneficiaries to get through Ramadan with resilience and generosity. In addition, it is hoped that this kindness will also warm the hearts of our brothers and sisters amid the limitations they face in the aftermath of the flash floods. (Dompet Dhuafa)
