NORTH LAMPUNG — The clean water crisis caused by prolonged drought remains a serious problem in various regions in Indonesia, including in Abung Surakarta District, North Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. Prolonged drought has not only affected the agricultural sector, but also the daily lives of the community.
In addition to the drought, by 2023, the prolonged dry season has caused 6,000 hectares of farmland in four subdistricts of Lampung Utara Regency—Abung Semuli Subdistrict, Abung Surakarta Subdistrict, Abung Timur Subdistrict, and Muara Sungkai Subdistrict—to face obstacles in agricultural growth, particularly for cassava and corn, due to dry soil leading to crop failure.

Seeing this condition, Dompet Dhuafa collaborated with Tokopedia through the Air Untuk Kehidupan (Water for Life) program to build a water well facility as a means of clean water, located in MA Plus Al-Amin, Sukoharjo Village, Abung Surakarta District, North Lampung, which was officially inaugurated on Thursday (7/17/2025).
During the dry season, residents of Sukoharjo Village face significant challenges in accessing clean water. The village’s remote location, far from water sources such as rivers, lakes, or irrigation networks, exacerbates the situation. The only available water source, a dug well, often dries up during the dry season.

Tokopedia, as a digital partner of Dompet Dhuafa, not only provides convenience for shopping but also for giving alms through its donation feature. The Air for Life program was initiated by Toppers (Tokopedia users) who have donated through the Tokopedia app.
The 60-meter-deep well was officially inaugurated by the Head of Digital Goods at Tokopedia, Dessy Anggrayeni; General Manager (GM) of ZIS Collection at Dompet Dhuafa, Ahmad Faqih Syarafaddin; Branch Manager of Dompet Dhuafa Lampung, Nandrianto Suparno; Muhammad Nur, Secretary of Abung Surakarta Sub-District; the Police Chief of Abung Surakarta; Siti Nurbaiduri, Head of Abung Surakarta Health Center; Ali Mujahid, Head of Nurul Huda Al-Amin Foundation; Afdu Rohim, Village Head of Sukoharjo; and representatives from MA Plus Al-Amin.

Ahmad Faqih Syarafaddin, GM of ZIS Dompet Dhuafa, expressed his appreciation to Tokopedia for its spiritual values that enable Tokopedia users to contribute to society.
“This is the result of the donations from Tokopedia users, which have made clean water available. The construction of these clean water wells is very important, not only to meet basic needs but also to enhance the productivity of children and the community and support a healthy learning environment,” said Ahmad Faqih Syarafaddin, General Manager of ZIS Collection at Dompet Dhuafa.

Furthermore, Head of Digital Goods at Tokopedia, Dessy Anggrayeni, stated that the collaboration that has been established with Dompet Dhuafa for 11 years, particularly through the Air untuk Kehidupan program, can be utilized to the fullest, as water is the source of life.
“Hopefully, every drop of water here will be of great benefit and well-maintained by the local community. As mentioned earlier, water is the source of life, so with access to water, we hope life here can run smoothly, and the children here can also carry out their daily routines, such as going to school, studying, and performing their religious duties,” added Dessy.

Sukoharjo, known as Kampung Santri, faces limitations in access to clean water. According to Bayu Aji Setiawan, a teacher at MA Plus Al-Amin, this area often experiences drought during the dry season because the residents’ wells are generally only dug wells with a depth of 10–15 meters.
When drought strikes, residents seek the nearest water source, approximately two kilometers from Sukoharjo Village, and head to the nearest mosque to collect water there.

The water well constructed by Dompet Dhuafa and Tokopedia is expected to provide tangible benefits to the community. Now, residents can access clean water more easily without any worries. The construction of the well was enthusiastically welcomed by the community, who even participated in the construction process.
“Alhamdulillah, the community is enthusiastic, and alhamdulillah, they are also happy with the well. The joy is because during the dry season, they won’t have to go far to get water anymore,” said Bayu.

Through this program, 170 beneficiaries in Abung Surakarta Subdistrict can now enjoy access to cleaner water. The wells constructed are also focused on educational environments, so that students can study in a more comfortable and healthy environment without being burdened by water shortages.
With the implementation of this program, Dompet Dhuafa hopes that the community can make the most of the clean water facilities, ensure their sustainability, and raise awareness about the importance of clean water in daily life.
